“The (first) cryptex featured in the novel is described as a stone cylinder made up of “five doughnut-sized disks of marble [that] had been stacked and affixed to one another within a delicate brass framework; end caps make it impossible to see inside the hollow cylinder. Each of the disks is carved with the entire alphabet, and since they can be rotated individually, the disks can be aligned to spell different five-letter words.” {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptex}
SPOILER ALERT: The five-letter password was not A P P L E as the film would lead you to believe. No, No, No, the true five-letter word solution is . . . D O N U T. Don’t spoil this for those who haven’t seen the film. And remember, no donut will lead you to a fit of heavenly sugary bliss faster than an A P P L E F R I T T(ER).

THE DAVINCI CODE Movie Review
3 out of 4 Donuts
Ok Ok Ok, JESUS, this film is far better than the the rancid piece of trasho that the critics make you believe it is. I went in with such L O W expectations that a two hour close up of my nose hair would have been more rewarding entertainment (I hope that you get my point - otherwise reply here and I will attempt to cobble together a two hour long close up of my nose hair and send it off to you on beta or vhs).
Think a decaffinated National Treasure (free of Jerry Bruckheimer’s strangle hold-triple espresso/red bull/rockstar testostro-buzz.) The film works. It ain’t ground breaking cinema, but from what I heard about the stinko quality of the book (which I tried to read but couldn’t get past the first three pages) it elevates it to a glossy level of respectability that actually goes down just fine with a tall, bubbly soft drink and a hot bag ‘o’ buttered corn.
Sorta like a 125 million dollar book on film.
One last observation; “Richie Cunningham” may have created a new genre here. An estrogen driven summer blockbuster directed by Guy. And after - this film is ALL about Girl Power.
